Set Up a Customer Spending Limit

Once the charge account is enabled, Salespoint allows you to set a spending limit for each customer. This ensures customers can only spend up to a defined amount within a set time period.

Before You Begin

Ensure the customer's charge account is enabled. If not, follow the steps in this article: Setting Up Customer Charge Account.

Setting a Spending Limit

  1. Go to the Customers tab from the Dashboard and search for the customer.
  2. Select the customer to open their profile, then click Edit.
  3. Locate the Spending Limit section and enter the desired amount (e.g., $50.00).
  4. Choose the Spending Limit Type:
    • Per Day – Applies the limit daily.
    • Per Week – Applies the limit across a 7-day period.
    • Per Month – Applies the limit over a full calendar month.
  5. Click Save to apply the limit.

Example Scenario

If you set a limit of $50.00 per week, any transaction over $50.00 for that customer will be blocked. The system will show an error message indicating the customer has reached their weekly limit. They won’t be able to make additional purchases until either:

  • The next week begins, or
  • A sale is refunded to their account, freeing up the limit.
i

Spending limits work independently of the charge account balance. This allows you to control how much a customer can spend within a set timeframe even if they have credit available.
